DAY 106(it's been awhile but i got good news)

Well today I found out that I was selected for AZ2 which is awesome. I officially become AZ2(AW) on Thanksgiving meaning I get pinned with my wings and I get frocked for 2nd which is kinda a cool day to be frocked seeing that I took my test for AZ2 on Sept 11. I also passed my EAWS(wings) Board on Nov. 10th which is the Marine Corps Bday which of course I am not a Marine but I thought it was kinda cool. We only have a couple more days 12 to be exact on this wonderful Island in the Ocean know as the beloved Kearsarge or if you are anyone besides ships company(people stationed permanently on the boat) we like to call it the Queerbarge. It seems that this cruise is going by slow but I know as soon as I set foot of the helicopter back in Norfolk I will realize how fast it went by. I mean I have come along way on this cruise. I made 3 out of the 3 goals I set for myself which were 1) make AZ2 2) get my wings and 3) enroll in college. So, I am very happy with myself but that is all the good news for now. I can't wait to get home and enjoy(no sarcasam) the cold weather with my family and friends.

Food on The Kearsarge

I go down to the galley (the ships cafeteria) expecting to have a half decent meal since we had a huge Kearsarge birthday bash for dinner, I mean it was midrats(its like 4th meal on the boat) so i didn't expect too much but i get down there and its meatballs and weird looking noodles with lemons and raisins and nuts in it. Obviously i get meatballs cause they looked decent. I sit down to eat and I look down at my wonderful plate of meatballs and notice this "sweet and sour" sauce the meatballs was in is made up of grapes, pineapples, and some other random fruits. The point of all of this is that I pay 303 bucks a month for the food they serve us. I don't understand where they get the 303 dollars a month total from because back home I can spend 210 dollars at the Commissary and get way better food for my wife, myself and still have enough to serve people through out the week. The food selection is terrible they always try to make these nice, fancy dinners and one thing they do I don't understand which is their use of bay leaves first of all bay leaves are suppose to be season for meat and chopped up but no the mighty Mountain Top Cafe(the name of Kearsarge's galley) has them full leaf and in rice and other various sides. All I'm saying is we need better food choices.

Sitting in the ocean wasting away

So today is day number 81 out to sea on the mighty USS Kearsarge. It seems like yesterday that i was sitting in the smoke pit talking to Melissa on the phone and waving at Jake good bye to embark on my wonderful 4 month cruise to South America. But, in that time I have been to 6 different countries, Ryan is now almost 4 months old, it is already week 10 in the college football season and i still haven't seen Nebraska play a game this season. We pulled into Trinidad to help them out even though as we look off the ship to the coast you see a skyline that resembles the skyline of a major US city. It just amazes me how much we help out other countries when we have the same issues in the United States. Don't get me wrong i don't mind helping out in other countries but its the fact that we seem to go to the wrong ones. Well anyways I think I'm going to get off here for now. Have a great night/day
